For some reason this year I became obsessed with finding calaveras de azucar, the decorated sugar skulls, that are made for the Da de los Muertos celebration. There seems to a plenty of places surfing the crafting wave that sell molds for the skulls but I was looking for something professionally decorated, which turned out to be tougher than I thought. Saturday Mr. P and I went down to the Mission in search of and came up empty. Today, the official holiday, I took a gamble and finally found a street stand around 24th and Mission near the cultural center where they make, decorate and inscribe them. I had a large skull made for my brother and two little ones just for decoration.

Legend goes you're supposed to take a bite out of your namesake skull as sort of a fuck you to death but its made with egg whites so to avoid true muerto Im thinking maybe hell skip that part.
