Because I'd say that it is most definitely PURPLE. Mr. P was helping me touch up the roots and for some reason when the color developed it looked like a cross between grape shaved ice and kool-aid. Attempts at toning it down failed and I had to use the only color that would cover the damn purple which turned out the Midnight Black.
