We took the apartment in such a hurry because we only had a few days in town so we really had no idea where it was located. But we’re about two or three block from the panhandle, it’s the section of park that leads into Golden Gate State park and it’s really beautiful. It took me a while to figure out why my afternoon runs were so mentholated. Turns out the bike/pedestrian path is lined with eucalyptus trees that give off a strong minty fresh odor. The fauna changes once you get into the park, parts of it are very Victorian and cultivated and others are primeval with gigantic fern type plants with pods as big as a person. Sometimes I like to pretend that I’m running back and forth through time, it makes the miles go faster.

As it gets further from summer sunset comes earlier and earlier and with sunset comes a big wave of fog. The first time it happened I was deep in the park and it was a very eerie Jack the Ripper/London fog scene. And the fog doesn’t waft in, it comes in at a pretty fast clip. So strange.
