A&F (Introduction)

During the fall of 1997 and 1998 in the heart of Lincoln Park located in the City of Big Shoulders, Chicago, Illinois, a unique touch football league emerged that became known as Abercrombie & Fitch Football.

A&F football was not your typical baseball hat wearing frat boy affair but more of a ballet of football. Each Sunday afternoon upwards of twenty gay and straight friends formed what was to become known as the Abercrombie & Fitch Football League. While the history of the formation and naming of the league remains controversial (you can review the battle in the post titled 'a&f, our history') it grew and thrived over the two years. It culminated in a fabulous tailgate party at the Tom Daily Gardens and homecoming in the converted gymnasium of Chez Matt K. complete with crepe paper, spiked punch, special awards, and the crowning of a king & queen.

My original role at the time was staff photographer and chief webmistress, a charge I took seriously. Having recently come across remnants of those glorious seasons I've posted bits and pieces for all to enjoy. Players will be identified by first name and initial only as to protect the privacy of those who have for real jobs and might not like colleagues in the arts, sciences, business and education to know they spent almost every Sunday at Sidetrack drinking Bloody Marys at 3p.m in the afternoon after a round of gay touch football.
